All writers are familiar with the feeling: you have no schedule or deadline and write endless drafts, each time finding something new to change, something to add or remove. Then a deadline does loom near, yet you are still not entirely convinced it’s right, just the way you really want it.
Every time we read a text, even (or perhaps especially!) if it’s one we wrote ourselves, it is natural to look at it differently and keep editing it repeatedly.
My role as an editor is to offer you a different angle.
I will take out unnecessary words, add, remove or “clean up” punctuation, replace one term with another, more appropriate one, unify language and format, invert word order in a phrase to improve the style, replace sentences and sometimes paragraphs, and even re-write a section entirely in order to create a clear, flowing and elegant text.
Even experienced writers and famous published authors require editing services and they realize that a good editor can add an extra touch to their text, making it more effective, without detracting from the writer’s original intention or style.
Translation
What makes a high quality translation?
A good quality translation retains the wording, language level and unique nature of a text.
A quality translation should read as though the target language were the original language of writing.
When I translate a text from English into Hebrew I maintain proper Hebrew syntax and avoid common English features such as 'passive' verbs, since Hebrew usually prefers 'active' verbs.
I check every phrase or combination carefully to avoid inaccurate or even ridiculous translation.
In case of words with more than one meaning, the appropriate meaning within the context and topic will be chosen. Where there is any uncertainty, I will take the trouble to verify that my choice of word or phrase is the correct one.
